Yes. I said it. And this is why you shouldn't shy away from them either.
Creating is calming.
I created a mini series of ink illsutrations inspired by tarot cards. I might not be a fan of seeing my future in cards but I sure enjoy the inspiring imagery! Some of this art took me days to finish and in the process I found peace, comfort and so much oneness with myself. This led to my burning desire to create more of this peace and comfort for others as well. And the universe decided to bless me with the opportunity to do so!
There's so much out there!
And so as I started exploring the "Adult Colouring Book" genre, I found all kinds of beauty in it. Think of anything under the sun and I promise Amazon has something for it. There's mandalas, flowers, animals, swear words (yup!), affirmations, anime, historical events, your favourite movie quotes- anything and everything! I was unbelievably lucky to have worked on two such incredible books- a food porn colouring book and a hysterectomy recovering journal- kind of covering the spectrum! Not only should you treat yourself to these fascinating themes but also pick up a few for your loved ones! These make for great personalized gifts!
Pause Adulting. You deserve to feel other things.
If there's something I realise more and more with every passing year, it is that more than half of life is just obligations. If you can take some time off from all your responsibilities and expectations, then don't spend it doom-scrolling on your phone like a zombie. Feel something. Inspire yourself. Do something different! And if I can be a part of it, there's nothing that would make me happier!
You are not a goldfish.
I hope my fellow adults realise how much worse our attention span is getting because of the barrage of nano second content. It's almost like the worse the content gets, the more of it we need to get our daily fix. Give your eyes and soul a break from these robotic dances and 5-second craft videos and do something that requires a little more attention but you actually get to invest some of your soul. Colouring books are great to increase your attention span and memory, along with being a wonderful stress-reliever.
It's something YOU create! And it is a lot of fun!
Even with all the intricate designs and artwork you're provided with, you get to make it your own! Colour outside the lines, have some fun with it. In fact, invite your friends over. Make copies of the same colouring page and watch as all of you create absolutely different renditions of the same piece. Make next saturday a "Paint & Prosecco" night and see it being a total hit! Not every weekend has to be a what-should-we-watch-on-netflix-and-what-should-we-order-for-dinner night!
I hope you get to experience the joys of adult colouring and for myself, I hope I can continue creating more of these lovely books! What other themes do you think would make for perfect colouring books? Think of a theme that screams 'YOU' and let me know. Maybe we can create something together!
